A Documentary Meissen Hausmaler Teabowl and Saucer, circa 1737, each covered in a brown glaze and decorated in gilt probably by Joseph Hackl of Augsburg with continuous scenes of amusing chinoiseries including oriental musicians, all within scroll borders, the well of the teabowl with an exotic bird and the exterior of the saucer with flowers, each base inscribed in brown with JH monogram and 37 within double circles
This signature is attributed to Joseph Hackl of Augs-burg, whose presence in Augsburg is apparently un-documented; however, he is known in Göggingen near Augsburg in 1749 and was described as an
"Augsburger Bürger und Bildhauer"

A similar teabowl and saucer with gilt decoration of the same type, also signed, is in the British Museum, see the Exhibition Catalogue, "Documentary Continental Ceramics from the British Museum", International Ge-ramics Fair London 1985, ps. 34 and 35, no. 21.
