First Edition. A lovely collection of 11 tales. Features De Poppendokter, Naar Het Warme Land, Hagedisje, Kleine Tom, and other tales. Beautifully illustrated with several full-page black and white plates and other drawings in text by Adri Alindo. Published by G.B. Van Goor Zonen, Gouda, Nederlands, 1927 (No year of publication given, but assumed to date from 1927). Cream cloths boards with illustration and brown/ purple lettering on front board. Brown title to spine.
Book Dimensions: 21 x 16 cm & Number of Pages: 79.
Condition
Minor wear to spine ends and boards’ corners with some faded marks on covers. Tanning/ foxing spots on some pages. No writing or inscription. All plates are present. The contents are bright and clean. (Please see pictures).
SNELLEN, Agatha Petronella
SNELLEN, Agatha Petronella (Born Odijk 18-10-1862 - BG Bilthoven 11-4-1948), pedagogue, school founder and writer. Daughter of Willem Snellen (1830-1892), preacher, and Josina Brooshooft (1840-1929). Agatha Snellen remained unmarried. Her first known publications date back to 1892, the year in which her father died: a fairytale in Elsevier's Illustrated Monthly and Newcomers at the boarding school, a play for girls. In 1893 and 1894 she wrote some fairy tales for Het Nieuws van den Dag. She was very successful with In the mouse world (1894), a fairytale in which composer Catharina van Rennes made music.
