Title vignette by Bernigeroth and 18 partly folded copper plates.
Thick octavo: 39 sheets, 1066 pages, 50 sheets of index.
In period binding of full calf with decorated spine, with wear to head of spine.
This is the only edition of the most comprehensive anatomical textbook ever printed in Rostock. - "The work by Eschenbach, which comprises 1066 pages in octavo without the detailed index, is written in a clearer and more factually concise manner than most textbooks of the time. It reflects the state of anatomical science at the time", Gert-Horst Schumacher and Heinz Günther Wischhusen, Geschichte der Anatomie an der 550 Jahre alten Universität Rostock. Auf der Grundlage von Richard N.Wegner zur Geschichte der anatomischen Forschung an der Universität Rostock (Berlin 1970), page 73).
The author was a city physician in Rostock, and at times also rector and medical professor of the university there.
The most detailed work on anatomy to date and it appears to have been widely used. Some occasional browning, but most pages are clean. One plate is loose, another has been repaired.
