SIGNED; Petra Wittmar - Medebach. Photographien. Photographs 1979-1983 - 2007

Medebach is an extract from a project to which the photographer devoted her time from 1979 to 1983. Her renunciation of inflammatory moments and her largely formal stringency distinguish the quality of these images, which can also be read as the German reaction to the American New Topographics movement in the late 1970s. Signed by Petra Wittmar. I GUARANTEE THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE SIGNATURE. Mint, new, unread. Still originally shrink-wrapped in publisher`s plastic foil; only opened once for signature. Welcome to the "GERMAN PHOTOBOOKS" auction by Ecki Heuser (5Uhr30.com, Cologne) - with more than 100 fantastic lots. IF YOU WIN MORE THAN 1 BOOK IN THIS AUCTION, YOU WILL PAY ONLY 1 X SHIPPING COSTS - WORLDWIDE. Petra Wittmar was born in Medebach, Germany in 1955. She studied photography at the Folkwangschule/University of Essen from 1977 to 1983. Since then she has worked as a freelance photographer on projects about European architecture of the early twentieth century and on subjects related to urban and suburban space. She lives in Essen. Steidl, Göttingen. 2007. First edition, first printing. Hardcover with dust jacket. 280 mm x 250 mm. 110 pages. 50 tritone plates. Photos: Petra Wittmar. Text by Hubertus von Amelunxen. Epilogues by Susanne Lange and Gabriele Conrath-Scholl. Text in English and German. Great german photobook in perfect condition - signed by the artist. "In this photographic inventory of her birthplace, Petra Wittmar analyzes the architectural and topographical appearance of Medebach, a village located in Hochsauerland, in the center of Germany, and attempts to disclose the structures of village life in the process. Her interest in this subject was sparked by the drastic changes in the 1970s, which practically replaced the village with an increasingly interchangeable, standardized culture and lifestyle. Just as newly imposed construction norms and new directions in taste were taking hold, an apparently contrary yearning arose for "home" and personal happiness in this rural corner. Aesthetic breaches and varied cultural and political contradictions were the result, which led to an intensive investigation of questions surrounding the significance of identity."
