Thomas Coryat - Coryat`s Crudities - 1905
A very good copy of the rare facsimile reprint in 1905 of Coryat`s travel book, the first "guide book" to Europe written by an englishman. A nice copy with a few small blemishes to the covers but many pages unopened and never read. Coryat (1577-1617) walked much of the way from England to Venice noting all he saw. He was also the first Brit to use an umbrella ! He writes detailed descriptions of Venice as it was in 1606, along with Milan, Padua, Heidleburg, Paris, Zurich, Basle, Strasbourg and Nijmegen. The book has 10 plates, some of them folding and was limited to 1,000 copies only.
