Nice oblong wooden kanban 看板 (shop sign) promotes confectionery items, prominently featuring the names ‘Kintoname’ キントンアメ and ‘Okachin’ おかちん. Both products were available at two establishments in Chiryû city 知立町, Aichi Prefecture.
The sign is crafted from Sugi (cedar) wood, which has developed a rich, dark patina over time, and is adorned with carved inscriptions and symbols highlighted in gold and red lacquer finishes.
Period: Japan – Early Shôwa period (Second quarter 20th century).
Dimensions:
Height 44.2 cm, Length 144.2 cm, Depth 5 cm.
