Invergordon is the most northerly grain whisky distillery in Scotland, located hundreds of miles north of the grain distilleries in the Scottish Lowlands. It was founded in 1960 and has been in the hands of Whyte & Mackay since 1993. Invergordon has the capacity to produce a staggering 40,000,000 litres of whisky per year, most of which is used in blends—but occasionally we get the chance to taste the distillery’s grain whisky on its own, through independent bottlers like The Vintage Malt Whisky Co. Invergordon 34 Years Old Cooper’s Choice 1988 was distilled in February 1988 and matured for 34 years in bourbon cask #8156. Just 264 bottles were produced in 2022. On the nose, the whisky displays aromas of brown sugar, figs, milky coffee and buttery oak. The palate brings toasted walnuts, caramel and cardamom. Sweet hints of Crunchie bar, banana ice cream and marmalade linger on the finish.
