Samokhin worked predominantly in the traditional realistic style characteristic of the Ukrainian academic school of painting. His work spans various genres including subject painting, portrait, and landscape. Since 1966, he has been teaching at the State Art Gymnasium named after T.G. Shevchenko and became a member of the National Union of Artists in 1974. His works have been featured in numerous exhibitions at the city, republican, international, and personal levels.
