ABOUT THE ARTIST: Kevin Ledo is a Montreal-based artist who grew up in a blend of urban and ethnic cultures. Raised by Portuguese parents from the Azores Islands, Kevin graduated in Illustration and Design from Dawson College in 1999 and embarked on his full-time artistic practice in 2005. This opportunity allowed him to live and work across the globe, from Vancouver, Taiwan, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and all the way to China, continually broadening his horizons and immersing himself in new cultures. Kevin's artistic practice spans various genres, including mural art, street art, and fine art. Highly recognized and in demand for his portrait murals, he has participated in numerous mural festivals and public art initiatives in Canada and around the world. Some notable events include AptART in Beirut, One Blue Sky Project in cities across the USA, FIAP in Cancún, and The Raw Project in Miami and Denver. Throughout his career, Kevin has extensively explored portraiture and the human form, recently delving into abstract art within his studio practice. His portraits are bold and iconic, emphasizing composition and delicate color palettes to capture the essence of each subject, conveying their personality and emotions. In his abstract work, Kevin explores mark-making and color theory. Through the interplay of color, line, texture, and geometric shapes, he brings movement and depth to the canvas. A humanist at heart, Kevin believes in the power of art to bring people together and foster understanding and empathy. Through his creations, he aspires to inspire others to embrace and celebrate their cultural heritage while promoting inclusivity. ABOUT THE ARTWORK: Dream Artifact. The title itself evokes ethereal impressions and traces left from another life experienced at night, reminiscent of an archaeologist deciphering old messages carved in stone. Here, on a beige canvas, Kevin lays out the remnants of a world ruled by the subconscious mind. This artwork delves into the abstract side of Kevin's work. The haziness of sleep permeates through the dilution and transparency of the three primary colors, blending to create new impressions. The lines meander softly and roundly. While the yellow maintains its intensity, brightening the subject, the blue and pink become thinned out, at times dripping in a splash of solvent, blurring their contours and ends. We love this artwork for the profound sense of peace it provides, coupled with its highly decorative power. The mix of patterns and the juxtaposition of transparent layers across the beige canvas allow viewers to discover new perspectives and details with each observation. We hope it can find a special place in your home or work interior, aiding you and others in reconnecting with the comforting sense of past dreams. STREET-ART MOVEMENT: Kevin Ledo belongs to the wide and ever growing Street-Art movement that originated in the late 80s graffiti scene and has since been reclaiming public spaces as a platform to emancipate art and make it truly accessible to everyone. Councils and, overall, the public domain have now recognized its power and ability to renew and revive cities, abandoned areas, and spark interest for people to (re)engage with commons. Many festivals, commissions, and dedicated museums now celebrate the diversity of styles coexisting within Street-Art. Some of the most prominent members of this movement include pioneers and precursors Keith Harring, Basquiat, Jacques Villeglé, and the more contemporary Banksy, Obey (Shepard Fairey), Invader, C215, JR, Vhils, Mr. Brainwash, FAKE, Jef Aerosol, Swoon, Speedy Graphito, Cornbread, Futura 2000, Kaws, D*Face, Misstic, Fin DAC, the London Police,1010, Alexi Diaz, Alias, Alice Pasquini, Axel Void, Blek le rat, Cranio, Super A, Danielle SeeWalker, Hoxxoh, Bortusk Kleer, Arsh Mandrome, Hök, Moabit, TedyZet, Utopia, Jago Oner, Santicri, Kev Munday amongst many, many more.
