The second part (1576) is entitled “Islands belonging to Italy” (Isole appartenenti all’Italia) and is dedicated to Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Malta and smaller islands in the Mediterranean. New York: Robert Appleton Company; Michele Orlando, La Puglia nell'odeporica domenicana di fra Leandro Alberti, in Rivista di Studi italiani, XXIII, nº 1 (June 2005). Author: Leandro Alberti (1479-1552) was an Italian historian, philosopher and theologian, he was led to humanistic studies by the well-known doctor and humanist Giovanni Garzoni (1419-1505). Having entered the Dominican Order in 1493, he studied theology and philosophy with Silvestro Mazzolini da Prierio (1456-1523) while continuing to cultivate his humanistic and historical interests with Garzoni. In 1524, during the witch hunt in the Duchy of Mirandola, he translated into Italian the dialogue "The Witch or the illusions of the devil" (Strix, sive de ludificatione daemonum) written by Giovanni Francesco II Pico della Mirandola. Alberti's translation is recorded as the first treatise on demonology published in the vernacular. Alberti's most important work is undoubtedly the "Descrittione di tutta Italia" (Description of all Italy), published in Bologna in 1550, a work of geography and history, it largely follows Biondo Flavio (1392-1463) "Italia illustrata" (Illustrated Italy), expanding and improving it in the exposition and citation of sources, but showing little critical spirit.
