Lino Sabattini (b.1925) Italy after a design of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) Sabatini made this item from 1984. Design based on the original design of a Christening set given by Charles Rennie Mackintosh to his godson in 1903. Metal silverplate. A cutlery set was designed in 1902 for Jessie Newbery, the wife of the Director of the Glasgow School of Art, Francis H. Newbery. In the same form Mackintosh designed the children's cutlery set for his godson, the son of Hermann Muthesius (architect and writer about the work of Mackintosh, the Glasgow school and the Art and Crafts movement) Literature: Norbert Jopek, Mackintosh and Muthesius, in: Jahrbuch der Hamburger Kunstsammlungen, Band 24, 1979. Lino Sabatini was one of Italy’s most inventive silversmiths. He has also produced glass and ceramics. Length of the cutlery: 6.34"/16.1 cm and 6.49"/16.5 cm Marked for 1986 (photo 8 to 10). Original box. In good condition, only some minor signs of wear at the corners of the box.
