These very special chess pieces date back to the late 18th century. The exact origin is not known, in the literature it is believed to be the Netherlands, but it could also be Denmark or Northern Germany, see last two pictures (source Chessmen - Mathieu and Ine Kloprogge). It is one of the oldest chess games from the region. The chess pieces are expertly crafted from wood. The rooks, bishops, kings and queens are also equipped with an ivory top, see detailed pictures. The chess game is therefore also provide a report of observation by a certified appraiser. The chess set is complete and all chess pieces are in original condition. The condition of the chess pieces is poor to reasonable. Many pieces have light to medium-size damage and also, some pieces glued. The white knights slightly differ in size too. Nevertheless, it remains a beautiful piece of chess history. The chessboard depicted in the photos is for illustration purposes and is not included in the lot. The chess pieces can be safely stored in the accompanying box, very likely from the same time. On the lid it says "De Rapper". The height of the king is 8 cm and the total weight is 0.3 kg. The entire lot will be packaged safely and shipped by registered and insured mail.
