1985 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL W126 V8 Carat Duchatelet in original condition. Former embassy vehicle in Doha (Qatar), in Spain. It was imported to Spain in 1997 and it has its official booklets stamped in Qatar. It features a special interior equipment, made by the Belgian preparer Carat Duchatelet. Carat Duchatelet was founded in Liege (Belgium) in 1968 with the aim of integrating into cars the best materials and safety technologies. Initially, the company specialised in armour-plating and customisation of Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicles. In the 1980s, Carat Duchatelet also began to modify the interior of standard sedan models and off-road vehicles, and created a Security Department. In this period, Carat Duchatelet gained great prestige for their executions in Africa, Europe (especially Eastern Europe) and the Middle East. Over 40 heads of state used armoured security vehicles by Carat Duchatelet. This Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL has a Carat Duchatelet interior with special upholstery, furniture and floor (see pictures) which belong to the ‘Carat Cullinan’ version by the Belgian car body maker.
