The Malleus Maleficarum (The Hammer of Witches”/ “Hexenhammer”) is a famous medieval treatise on witches. It popularized the belief of witchcraft as heresy, a crime against God. Previously, the courts had mostly pursued witchcraft when it involved maleficia, or harmful acts. With the publication of the Malleus Maleficarum and subsequent changes in judicial law, the persecution of witches became the business of the elites and the civil courts and thus witchcraft hysteria began to spread like wildfire. Girolamo Menghi (1529–1609) was a Franciscan friar and leading EXORCIST of the Italian Renaissance. Girolamo Menghi wrote extensively on Demonology and Exorcism prior to the codification of exorcism rites in Pope Paul V’s Rituale Romanum in 1614. Pietro Antonio Stampa's wrote the Fuga Satanae ('Flight of Satan') and was a well now exorcist in his time
