Background:
The medieval castle Beynec was built in the 12th century by the Baron of Beynac. Its austere appearance forms a unit with the limestone rock formation on which it was built. It rises high above the town overlooking the 'Dordogne' River.
The castle is protected by the French Ministry of Culture since 1944 as a historic monument.
In 1962 Lucien Grosso (1910-2008) purchased the castle and restored it. After his death, his wife Denise (1931-2016) enjoyed the usufruct. After her death in February 2016, the new owner -via donation in the absence of heirs - is Alberic de Montgolfier (1964 -....), son of the curator of the museum and "président du conseil général d'Eure-et-Loir ".
Note: The castle was the backdrop for numerous films, including the film "L'Histoire Très Très Bonne et Joyeuse the Colinot Trousse-Chemise" (1973) including the actresses Brigitte Bardot (her last film) and Nathalie Delon.
