Lorestan Brons Socked Spjutspets
A fine Luristan bronze spearhead with a triangular-shaped blade featuring a prominent central midrib. The spearhead presents a long socket with a flaring rim, from which a wood shaft would have been attached. This weapon is a fine example of Luristan workmanship with an aesthetically shaped blade. Some earthly encrustations and patination to the surface. The piece is supplied with a custom-made display stand.
Luristan bronze comes from the province of Lorestan. In ancient times, nomadic populations, such as the Medes, the Kassites and eventually the Persians, settled in the area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the Luristan bronzes was of great size since it was required for them to be light and portable. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Most Luristan bronze items have been recovered in funerary contexts.
Measurements: Circa L 18.3cm x W 3.8cm
Provenance: Ex London Collection, formed between 1990-present.
