Kashmiri - Koran for the Nawab Amiu Khau. - 1727
Nr 81752511
Nr 81752511
A fine leaf from a Qur'an of Persian origin scribed in the late C17th, with an illuminated header (Surah) and detailed Juz in the margin in the shape of a vase with a decorative headpiece. it is miniature in all aspects, managing to fit within the body of the scripture, 14 lines of fine naskh script in black ink, with Persian commentary in red ink in the spaces between the lines of scripture. The script is divided by a Surah containing great written detail within a gold cartouche and book ended by blue and gold arabesque florals. Multiple gold aya, best seen in image 3b, mark the verses: these are complex given their size with a central dot and a division into 4 parts with radials from the centre to the circumference.
This leaf is in great shape for its age and is hinged (see image 2) with photographic corners so could be easily removed for mounting or framing.
