Ikon - Saint Spyridon och Saint Nicholas, handmålade - Trä

The icon is hand painted on wood, in good condition for its age. Saint Spyridon, Bishop of Trimitunt the Wonderworker is one of the great saints and miracle workers. Saint Spyridon is seen as the patron saint of artisans of various professions, including: shoemakers (as he is believed to have been, making condurs), bricklayers, potters, coppersmiths, tailors, abadjis and builders. He is also considered the patron saint of horses and cattle. Especially revered by tile masters, in connection with the following legend: When he was at the Council of Nicaea (the First Ecumenical Council), in the midst of heated debates, Spyridon performed a famous miracle - in order to convince his opponents, the Arians, of the rightness of his arguments, he squeezed tile in hand. Fire came out of one end, water flowed out of the other. Another time, according to another tradition, probably around the Council of Serdicia, while he was resting for the night, robbers stole his donkey and, to spite the old man, cut off its head and carried it away, and returned the rest to him. However, he again proved his extraordinary relationship with God by replacing it with a horse, and in this form his cattle took him to Serdika. Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker is known as an opponent of paganism and Arianism. Throughout his life, Nicholas helped the suffering, protected the innocent and strengthened the weak with the word of truth and faith. He is revered as a saint and patron of the poor, children, sailors, fishermen, travelers, merchants, bankers and moneylenders, prisoners, repentant thieves, brewers, coopers, pharmacists. Saint Nicholas is the only saint credited with having the power to resurrect (through his prayer).
