Ancient Egyptian cast solid bronze statue of Osiris on a custom-made stepped wooden base. Osiris, the creator God is standing in mummiform with plume, atef crown with ureas on forehead, holding a prominent staff and crook at chest, royal beard. The figurine has a tang at the bottom of the base, with which it stood on an original base in antiquity (which was probably made of wood and has been lost). Today it stands on an antique wooden base from which it can easily be lifted. The base is antique (ca. 1920's) and is included in the sale. Figurines like these were very popular as grave goods in the Middle Kingdom and the Late Period. Total height: ± 15,5 cm Osiris figure: ± 129,3 mm Condition: good solid condition, part of the crown and plume are missing. Appealing olive brown and green patina with areas of cuprite. He was the son of Geb (the god of the Earth) and Nut (the god of the Sky). As a god, he fulfilled many roles. He was thus lord of the underworld, but also a symbol of resurrection, of life after death, and of fertility.
