A sphinx is a mythical creature with a human head, body of a lion and wings of an eagle. In ancient Greece and Egypt sphinxes were considered to be guardians and they were often placed at the entrances to temples.
In Egyptian culture the sphinx symbolized royalty and sacred status. The most famous sphinx is the Great Sphinx of Giza.
Condition: good solid condition, finely detailed features. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images.
