A very rare large Celtic bronze statue showing a bull protome and snake in square border. The statue was probably fixed to a staff or stand for home devotion.
The Celtic bull stands for virility and fertility and also represents wealth and prosperity.
Length: ± 77,7 mm
Width: ± 30,6 mm
The snake was a complex animal symbol calling forth many ideas to the Celts. Representing the process of creation, rebirth, fertility, and healing. Serpents also represented the connection between the rivers and seas as well as the Heavens and Earth.
The Celtic snake both protected the entrance to the Otherworld and acted as the gods' companion. Thanks to the annual shedding of its skin, the snake was the Celtic animal symbolizing the cyclical nature of life.
Condition: Good and solid condition, encrustation of earth. The statue will be delivered with an old wooden display stand on which it can stand, but if used permanently some securing is advised. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images.
