Sa'adi of Syria - Kulliyat - Kashmir - 1815

A very good and imposing bi-folio from an edition of Sa’adi’s works including the Bustan (Fruit Garden) and the Gulistan (Rose Garden) compiled as the ‘Kulliyat’. Sheikh Sa’adi (c1180-1292) is acknowledged as the greatest moral teacher in Persia in the Islamic Sufi tradition. The text is nastaliq and in a fine hand. The decoration in the margins and the floral verticals is exquisite. This particular manuscript dates from around 1815. The condition is very good. Both leaves of the bi-folio contain a central rectangular script frame, with a wide margin in which is further script and decorative illuminations to the inside corners and centre. Not quite mirror images, the right folio contains a Surat with a lovely book-end floral decoration. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
