Västasiatisk Vit hårdsten Pärlat halsband (Utan reservationspris)

An Ancient Roman restrung necklace composed of vibrant circular stone beads of different hues of white. The beads gradually increase in size towards the centre, where the necklace lowers into three irregular large spherical beads with pale opaque yellow ending with a small spherical bead creating a pendant-like formation. Each bead presents a unique shape and a different shade of colour and texture reflecting their antique and hand-crafted qualities. Some beads present a pearlescent luster while others have turquoise specks on the surface. Jewellery is thought to be one of the oldest forms of art within history, with the presence of rings, bangles and necklaces’ being present in almost all ancient societies. The Western Asiatic during Mesopotamia is home to many interesting and unique jewellery patterns, with hardstone being the common material of choice for ancient citizens to decorate themselves with. The sophisticated nature of the society can be seen through their jewellery making skills with elaborate patterns and carvings being common find. Measurements: 22cm half-length with folded (beaded section) and 33cm half-length (including the string). Provenance: Ex private UK collection, acquired 1990s.
