Gerhard Richter (1932) - Die Welt - Special Artist Edition, signed

Die Welt Artist Edition Gerhard Richter, 2012 Original hand signed on the front-page by the Artist in 2014. New, stored in safe and dry environment without solar radiation. 5 October 2012: Painter, sculptor and photographer Gerhard Richter, born in Dresden on 9 February 1932, designed the third artist's edition of "Die WELT". The lot offered here is the complete, original newspaper with signature on the front page. The artist signed the front cover in October 2014 as a favour due to an exchange of books and historic photos between him and my father. They both met in 2010 at an exhibition in Pulsnitz/Saxony and knew each other through family relationships. The existing communication (letter) will of course be provided to the buyer (by copy). With the publication of this special edition, the publisher of "Die Welt" has also issued a limited edition of 100 of the front page, signed by the artist. The remaining prints available on the market are priced between €6,000 and €10,000. I would like to point out that the item offered here is not the limited edition but the original edition of the magazine signed by the artist. This means that this copy is exclusive and not available several times on the market. The magazine is complete, including all the pictures exchanged by the artist for the articles. Please notice the introductory text: In its third year, it has finally become a tradition: after Georg Baselitz and Ellsworth Kelly, Gerhard Richter, one of the most important artists of our time, has once again taken over the "world" for a day. And has created an edition that, like those of his predecessors, will go down in some of the world's most important museum collections. On Thursday, Richter appeared in time for the ten o'clock conference and designed his edition until the evening. And what do we, the readers, see today? We see the world through Richter's eyes - snapshots of journeys, walks, family celebrations, we see studio scenes, cemetery pictures, children at play. We see what is happening while candidates for chancellor give interviews, Wagner's "Siegfried" celebrates its umpteenth premiere, Turkey readjusts its Middle East strategy and the European Central Bank calls for further reforms in crisis countries. We see tender, hard, banal images, we see what is commonly called life. Gerhard Richter, as our art critic Hans-Joachim Müller writes in the feuilleton lead, as a painter as well as a photographer, trusts the persistent blink that saves things from the pull of great understanding. For one day, we - you, Peer Steinbrück and I - are at the mercy of Gerhard Richter and his gaze. May the irritations be as stimulating as the collaboration with the artist. (C) Cornelius Tittel, Head of Feuilleton "Die Welt" Logistics will be handled by UPS Express incl Insurance. The item will be shipped securely packed. For deliveries to the UK, customs duties and taxes must be paid by the buyer.
