Tsumeb is one of the most mythic localities for the mineral collector. There, the unlikely combination of several geological factors made possible the occurrence of a wide variety of finely crystallized mineral species, to such and extent that this deposit set the highest international standards for several species over the second half of the last century.
Here is a very unusual specimen displaying black tennantite partial pseudomorphs after keg-shaped mimetite crystals: you can still spot the unaltered mimetite at the core of the broken pseudomorphs.
Notice that the tennantite is partly coated in micro epitaxial cerussite.
This pseudomorphic combination is set on quartz and in combination with smithsonite and malachite.
A Tsumeb oddity!
