Tsutsugaki 筒描き Japansk TEXTIL indigofärgad 藍染 - Bomull - Japan - Taishō-perioden (1912-1926)

In tsutsugaki technique, a tube of shibugami is filled with glue made mainly from rice, and the glue is pressed out from the end of the tube to outline lines and patterns on the cloth. Shibugami is washi paper that has been layered and then coated with persimmon tannin and allowed to dry. Tsutsugaki is one of the most popular Japanese dyeing techniques. This textile has a large family crest in the center dyed with indigo using tsutsugaki. The blueish color of the family crest is the result of a technique called "ai-gaeshi," in which the glue is removed during the dyeing process, and the area is then dyed lighter. The four widths of cloth were joined together and used in futon bedding. Tsutsugaki, which were custom-made for bridal gifts and celebratory occasions, were imbued with auspicious designs and family crests wishing for wealth and happiness from the sender. It is no exaggeration to say that the history of cloth in Japan has been accompanied by indigo dyeing since the spread of cotton. Konya (紺屋) who specialized in indigo dyeing and dyers of various techniques dyed clothes indigo in many parts of Japan. Condition: There are several holes and stain. Other than that, it is in very good condition. Please see pictures detail. NOTICE ・The lot will be carefully packaged and we may use recycled packages to reduce the environment and the cost as much as possible. ・Duties, taxes, VAT and any other import charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost.
