Unknown - Koran - Herat - Timurid - 1460

A single Qur'anic leaf originating in Herat during the Timurid dynasty. The manuscript page has four (4) blue and gold marginal roundels (Juz) marking the verses in groups of 5, the blue showing less wear than the gold, with the upper blue juz being of excellent colour and quality. The thirteen (13) lines of scripture is naskh in black ink, with multiple gold 'aya' marking each verse. The spiral 'aya' are freehand and simple in their construction. There are diacritical markings in red guiding the devotees through the verses. on paper made from strong linen. This manuscript was scribed shortly after Shah Rukh’s reign at a time of great political turmoil and is a rare item dating from around the time of the fall of Constantinople to Islam in 1453. It is relatively small for ease of carriage, thus likely was for private use. As such, the leaf shows signs of devotional use but is in good condition - arguably excellent for its age. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
