The agricultural operation has always been focused in the region where the Douro River begins its course exclusively in Portuguese territory. This is also where the oldest demarcated wine region begins – the Demarcated Douro and Port Wine Region. Our goal has always been to produce high quality olive oils and wines, using only olives and grapes from our estates, with approximately 60 hectares of almond, 220 hectares of olive groves and 200 hectares of vineyards located around the village of Almendra, in the best part of the Upper Douro, included in the Côa Valley Archaeological Reserve. We have been winegrowers in our estates in the Upper Douro, surrounding the village of Almendra, since the end of the 19th century. Our oldest vine was planted in 1966 and, ever since, we have continued to plant and improve the selection of clones of traditional grape varieties, and introduced organic production methods. VINIFICATION In our winery, with the most modern technology and total temperature control, we eliminated bunches that were not in perfect condition, total stemming, soft crushing and thermal shock, followed by a period of cold pre-fermentative maceration in a press. for around 12 to 24 hours, after which the doughs were transferred to wide, low fermentation vats, where they fermented for around 10 days, at temperatures between 24 and 26ºC. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally and concluded at the end of December, part of the wine fermented in wood. Aging for 12 months in new extra fine grain French Oak barrels. TASTING NOTES - 2016 CARM Grande Reserva Red On the nose, very fresh and intense where notes of wild fruits and black cherries predominate in balance with seductive “Liquorice nuances”, the aroma being complexed by notes of wood. In the mouth it is concentrated, warm, with firm tannins and a smooth texture, a very intense and persistent finish showing the strength of Douro Superior wines. TASTING NOTES - 2018 CARM Grande Reserva Red Deep red wine. The intense varietal aromas emerge, ripe plum, blueberries and floral hints, It has richness, concentration of plumy fruit flavours, which combined with fine tannins and new French oak barrels ageing, give this wine an excellent and long mouthfeel. SERVING Accompanies meat dishes and cheeses. Store in a horizontal position, in a cool and dry place, protected from light and temperature fluctuations. Serve at a temperature between 16ºC and 18ºC. Consume in moderation.
