Indusdalen Terrakotta Votiv figur (Utan reservationspris)

A finely modelled Indus Valley terracotta figurine of a seated fertility goddess, featuring typical facial features including sunken round eyes, and a protruding hooked nose. She wears a wide collar formed of concentric bands. The figure is presented seated with her forearms held out horizontally in front and her legs bent at the knees. The right foot has been chipped off and some earthly encrustations are present over the surface. The figure has also received modern repair, with fine seams and glue residue still visible. The Indus Valley Civilisation extended from what today is north east Afghanistan to Pakistan and north west India. It was one of three early and widespread cradles of civilisation along with Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. At its peak, the Indus Valley Civilisation, which included such sites as Harappa and Mohenjo-daro, may have had a population of over five million, who developed new techniques in pottery, seal carving, and metallurgy. Measurements: H 12.5cm x W 4.6cm Provenance: From the David Gold (deceased) collection, 1970s.
