We present this magnificent carving of a Marwari horse handcrafted in blue polychromed wood with marvellous embossed brass appliqués.
This breed originates from the desert region of Marwar, hence its name. The existence of this breed dates back to 2000 years ago, when the nomads of the Chanan tribe roamed the deserts and plateaus of the Indian continent, so they felt the need to use a horse that could withstand and survive all these types of terrain.
In India, Marwari horses are considered a gift from the gods and are therefore considered sacred animals by those who profess Hinduism.
These wooden horse figurines have a deep significance rooted in the culture and history of Rajasthan. In Indian tradition, the horse is considered a symbol of nobility, power and bravery. These figures are believed to bestow protection and good fortune on their owners. In addition, the colour used in each design also has its own symbolism. Yellow represents prosperity, blue, as in our case, evokes the divine, green symbolises fertility and harmony, while red embodies passion and energy.
These horses are used for different types of ceremonies, where they are beautifully adorned both on the top and on the legs.
Our piece is a true reflection of this. We adore it!
