TWANNBERG järnmeteorit IIG från Schweiz - en av de 6 meteoriterna klassificerade IIG!! - Höjd: 13 mm - Bredd: 20 mm - 1.6 g
The -10 km2 strew field of Twannberg type IIG iron meteorite is located in the
Swiss Jura Mountains, 30 km northwest of Bern.
It fell around 160.000 years ago and was discovered in 1984.
The original diameter is estimated to have been in the range of 6-20 m.
This is a pretty cool piece that a lot of serious collectors try to obtain.
The Twannberg meteorite is the only hexahedrite. Worldwide few hexahedrite IIG
have been found which makes this one rare and Twannberg is also the largest
meteorite found in Switzerland!
Hexadrites are a structural class of iron meteorite. They are composed exclusively
of nickel-iron alloy kamacite and are lower in nickel content than the octhadrites.
Truly an apart, unique and sought after piece from outer space!
