Measuring 181mm in length, 44mm wide, and 25mm thick, this instrument exemplifies the Kwakiutl tribe's artisanship and their connection to the spiritual and natural world. The whistle features a mouthpiece with two air holes, designed to create a loud, distinctive sound once used in ceremonial contexts. The careful binding with twisted string indicates the value placed on preserving such instruments. The name "Charly" inscribed under the museum label adds a personal dimension to the artifact's history. Signs of repair and aged adhesive residue suggest this whistle has been carefully maintained, highlighting its importance over generations. Despite abrasions, darkening, and small chips, the whistle's condition is impressive, showcasing a desirable patina that speaks to its age and use.
