Large partly polished fossil ornament +/- 36.5x11.5x6.5cm - 1750gram -ORTHOCERAS (fossil "squid") -AMMONITE Orthoceras was a shell cephalopod that lived throughout the Ordovician and the Triassic in all the seas and ate sea scorpions and trilobites. This big cephalopod was a huge predator and it was also on top of the food chain of its time. Its favourite prey was the Trilobites, as it was easy to catch, and we see that the Ammonite was very voracious, as three trilobites were found within one, and it was never satisfied. Its shell was filled with air to keep in the same place. It became extinct in the Triassic period, in the extinction event at the end of that period.
