This painting is a family heirloom handed down from several generations. The seller was told by his grandmother, deceased in 1976, it's a portrait of Simon Bolivar 1783-1830 (From Caracas, Venezuela. Coined the "Liberator" (brought independence to South America). This painting is attributed to Charles Noel Flagg, however there is no signature on the front of the front of the canvas. The portrait is in overall good condition for a very old painting, likely dating back 125-150 years. There are some blemishes that would be expected. On the back of the canvas' wood frame, it's signed Charles Noel Flagg and dated 1887 with it written a location, "St. Paul Min.", but the authenticity of the signature is unverifiable. Research shows that Flagg had a daughter, Ellen Earle Flagg, who resided in St Paul, Min.,- perhaps a connection.
