Spring (Mameha) 春(荳葉)- From the series 'Six Images of Maiko' 舞妓六撰 - 1976 - Kito Nabesaburo 鬼頭鍋三郎 (1899-1982) - Japan

This work is part of a limited edition of 120 pieces. Additionally, there are 30 pieces designated for the author (E.A.) and 10 pieces for presentation and preservation (H.C.). This woodblock print is an E.A. edition. The sketch of the original work has been faithfully reproduced in fine detail through the carving of 40 blocks and the pressing process, which was performed 95 times. It is worth noting that the number of woodblocks used in typical ukiyo-e production is usually around 5, and the printing process involves approximately 10 to 20 times. In contrast, this print requires a significantly higher number of blocks and showcases exceptional delicacy. Carver: Eijiro Shimada (島田英次郎) Printer: Hiroshi Okutani (奥谷博司) Paper: Echizen washi (越前生漉奉書) Date of publication: April 30, Showa 51 (1976) At the lower left corner of the print, there is the artist’s chop mark and some other pencil writing is the title of this print in japanese. In the lower border, there is a watermark saying 1976.4 N.Y.S.
