Plant Paleontology-Lotus Leaf Fossils
Age: Late Triassic
Origin: Tiaojishan Formation, Beipiao City, Liaoning Province, China
Category: Ferns
Name: Hausmannia shebudaiensis
describe:shebudaiensis is the name of a village in Chaoyang, and Hausmannia is the transliteration of a lotus fern. Hausmannia is the most representative fossil of the family Diphyllidae. It flourished in the Mesozoic Era, with about 40 species around the world.
Dipteridaceae is a tropical true fern, with only one genus (Dipteris) currently living, and its distribution is limited to India-Malaysia and South China. However, during the Mesozoic Era, plants of this family were widely distributed around the world (up to more than 60 species in 6 genera) and were important indicator plants for global climate warming and plant geography at that time.
The three-dimensionally preserved fossils have plant specimens on the front and back. The veins are clear and the details are very good. They are very rare and belong to botanical museum-level collections.
