Aging: 7 years in small Slavonian oaks Alcohol content: 17% Service temperature: 18/20 °C This wine is piece of Italian winemaking history: the Selezione is a special Amarone from 2000, dedicated to Giuseppe Quintarelli by the whole Quintarelli family to thank him for his work in respecting quality and tradition. The 2000 vintage was the last to be brought by Bepi himself from the vineyard to the cellar, to produce a jewel of a wine – there are only 4,016 bottles (110 magnum only!), making it a real collector’s item. This wine is capable of improving as it ages in a way that few other wines are. It has a characteristic organoleptic profile (as Amarone demands) but is, at the same time, original. In the glass it has the typical, rather deep garnet-red colour that distinguishes Amarone. The aroma is intense and varied, reminiscent of bitter almonds with an aftertaste tending to black cherry and cherry. And in the mouth… it is elegant, refined, powerful, warm and persistent. The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2000 Selezione is undoubtedly an important and demanding wine. Sipping such a wonder takes time, and appreciating it also requires a little knowledge of its history. Only then can one grasp all its characteristics, without neglecting the smallest detail.
