This painting features a portrait of a young girl fern gatherer, bust-length wearing a headscarf and blue and white striped dress, oval, signed and indistinctly dated. The artist was a painter, illustrator and draughtsman who exhibited at the Scottish Royal Academy from 1835 and became the curator of the Scottish National Gallery.
