Two candleholdrers from the Alvar Aalto Collection by Iittala. The collection was originally designed in 1936. A craft that today there are only seven Scandinavian glass artists who can master and keep this stylish glass items alive. The Alvar Aalto Collection is a series of many vases, bowls and ornaments that, despite different colors and shapes, match each other. Alvar Aalto combined organic design with a craftsperson's expertise to create iconic pieces for home decor. Architect Alvar Aalto designed the Aalto collection in 1936. It won gold at the Karhula Iittala glass competition, making them the entry work to the Paris World Fair in 1937. Today, Aalto is a globally recognised symbol of modern Scandinavian design, and the items are true masterpieces of craftsmanship. Each Aalto bowl is mouthblown, hand cut and then polished several times at the Iittala Glass Factory in Finland.
