Pair of very large brass okimono modelled like a stag & doe - Skulptur Bronserad mässing - Japan
Pair of remarkably large bronzed brass garden ornaments of naturalistically shaped deer 鹿 (shika) with a nice patina. Featuring a slightly crouched doe standing at the side of a proud masculine stag with long impressive antlers.
Dimensions:
Stag:
Height 87.5 cm, Width 53.5 cm, Depth 28.5 cm.
Weight 8.7 kg.
Doe:
Height 48.5 cm, Width 67 cm, Depth 17 cm.
Weight 6.7 kg.
Period: Japan – approx. 60-80 years old (Shôwa period – 1940s-1960s).
Both are in a very good condition with minimal traces of wear conform age, like some minor oxidation spots. Please look at the photos for a condition reference.
In Japan, notably in the Shinto religion, deer are viewed as sacred messengers from the divine.
