Critas - 'Fraction apples' in original box
Wooden 'fraction apples' in original box. In very good condition. The apples are all a nice shining red!
The apples were used at schools to teach children fractions. Each of the 9 apples can be divided in pieces in different ways. The apples can be folded open, with a iron rod in the middle to keep the apple parts in place.
Dutch children were very familiar with apples, of course. This is why they were sometimes used as a teaching tool.
Can also be found in the collection of the National Education Museum in Rotterdam. A complete set in such a good condition, especially in original box, is very rare.
Made by publisher and educational tools business Critas, Doorn, the Netherlands (1920).
Box is approx. 20 by 20 cm x 8 cm. The box is in good condition, but has signs of wear and a small tear in the lid's rim.
The apples are also very decorative and look great as decoration.
Used at schools.
Apples were very common for children, that is why they were sometimes used at schools as teaching materials.
