The Cheavin Filter Company was originally the Fulham Pottery, founded in 1671. In 1864 Bailey bought the pottery. He went bankrupt in 1889 and the company was acquired by Winston Cheavin. The pottery was named ‘The Fulham Pottery and Cheavin Filter Company Ltd’. Cheavin had already requested a patent for his water filters in 1862. In 1867 his son G. Cheavin changed the label in the text that is on this water filter. The Cheavin's filters were in demand in the Netherlands and abroad and won prizes and medals.
