Very fine game of chess with the theme "the battle of Waterloo" from around the turn of the millennium, manufactured by Franklin Mint. This extremely luxurious version depicts all the protagonists of this historic battle, including Napoleon, Marie-Louise, the Duke of Wellington, Ney and the Prince of Orange. The pieces were made by artist Philip J. Haythornthwaite and consist of the original portrait sculptures of cast tin with a copper/enamel foot. All the pieces are very detailed and even the pawns differ in shape. Of each chess piece, there is a detailed description of the role of this character during this battle. The whole is in beautiful condition and comes in a luxury store cassette, of which the lid is also the chess board. This is also a wonderful board in grey and blue. The size is 35 cm by 35 cm and about 7 cm high. The height of the chess pieces ranges from 5 to 6 cm. This set was issued in a very limited edition and according to the history only available at the Waterloo museum via subscription.
