Solid wooden sculpture "The dying Lion of Lucerne" - Switzerland - dating around 1950.
At the foot edge, the Roman numerals MDCCXCII = 1792 are carved.
The original monument (German: Löwendenkmal) of Lucerne was designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen and carved by Lukas Ahorn in 1820-21. It commemorates the Swiss Guard who lost their lives in defence of the Tuileries Palace of the French King Louis XVI
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, American author and humorist, better known by his pen name Mark Twain, called the deadly wounded lion "the most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world."
