French marble pendulum clock from the 1880s.
The clock has an eight-day movement with half-hourly striking mechanism on bell, fitted with a Brocot escapement. The anchor is visible in front of the dial.
The movement was recently cleaned, serviced and oiled and runs perfectly.
The marble case is virtually pristine.
Brocot escapement.
Resting escapement invented by Achille Brocot (1817–1878) with semicircular pins of agate or synthetic ruby, which are placed perpendicular to the escapement wheel. The escapement was patented in 1840 and was frequently used in French mantel clocks with a Namur hardstone case. It is often visibly applied in the dial. In which case they are described as: 'éschappement visible' or 'mouvement visible'.
Comes with winding key.
