Sheffield plate is a layered combination of silver and copper that was used for many years to produce a wide range of household articles. The sheets of silver and copper were welded at high temperature.
Today the ancient Sheffield silver items are highly sought after by collectors as they are increasingly rare and difficult to find on the English market. You can still find many pieces which were Sheffield silver plated by electrolysis, and made by the 19 century most famous English silversmiths.
