Authentic Large Finely Detailed and Nicely Coloured Blue-Green Udjat Eye of Horus Amult with details highlighted in Black.
Late Period,c. 725 - 332 B.C. The Udjat, or Eye of Horus became the most significant amulet in ancient Egypt as a symbol of protection and was engraved on the gold plaque used to cover the incision in the mummy after removing the organs to protect the body of the deceased. In the legend of Osiris, after the king is murdered by his brother Set who covets the throne, when Osiris Son Horus becmes an adolescent he goes to challenge his uncle for the throne of Egypt. In the ensuing fight, Set tears out Horus Eye. It is restored to him by Thoth, the ibis headed god of medicine and esoteric knowledge. The parts of the Eye are also used in the Rhind Mathematical Papyrus to describe fractions.
A Large, fine example of the best style with the black highlights against the blue faience background.
Condition: Fine ancient craquelure to surface of glaze giving a real sens of the age. A small, inoffensve and ancient chip to the edge of the eye forepart.
