A 7-piece yellow-green vaseline glass dressing table set, made by Verrerie de Scailmont, Manage, Belgium. It is made of uranium glass. Uranium glass has had uranium compound added as a pigment, often uranium dioxide or sodium diuranate. Usually, this is a very small amount of uranium (2%). The glass has a green or yellow colour that glows under ultraviolet radiation (fluorescent). It is low-level radioactivity and not harmful to your health.
Uranium glass was produced on quite a large scale between 1870 and 1940. It has been used in art objects, lamps, bowls, medicine bottles, household objects and jewellery.
These are the 7 parts, with dimensions:
- Large decanter with stopper - 25 cm.
- Perfume bottle with stopper (minimal damage to the stopper), 16 cm;
- Perfume bottle with stopper. Damage on the bottom rim (photo 4), 14 cm;
- Water glass 10 cm, undamaged;
- Container with lid, 10 cm. Some damage on the rim, see photo 12;
- Ring tray, height 8 cm, diameter 9 cm, undamaged and signed;
- Low tray (signed), 12.5 cm.
The set is over a hundred years old and therefore has some user wear, but overall the set is in neat, vintage condition.
The pictures are an important part of the description.
