The original idea behind the Fabergé eggs:
The Russian Tsars hired Peter Carl Fabergé to create jewels in the shape of Easter eggs. This was in the period between 1885 - 1917. These jewels were intended as gifts. Of the 52 Fabergé eggs, there are 10 that have gone missing. However, it is known that Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom owns no less than 5. The rest are spread amongst individuals and museums all over the world.
