Bv Koninklijke Van Kempen & Begeer is an old and well-known Dutch company. The founder of the company concentrated on small silverware such as book locks, buckles and button purses. Over the centuries, new items were regularly added to the product line. This resulted in their current collection. On the one side, Koninklijke Van Kempen & Begeer was known for it traditional craftsmanship, and on the other, for modern contemporary products and production techniques. The foundation for Koninklijke Van Kempen & Begeer was laid in 1777, when Johannes Mattheüs van Kempen, born in 1764 in Utrecht as the only son of Pieter van Kempen and Margaretha van Sweringen, apprenticed to become a silversmith with Meester Den Briter. Johannes Mattheüs van Kempen was accepted as a master guild member in 1789 after which he was permitted to use his personal master stamp. The start of a centuries-old tradition in craftsmanship became a fact when his sons Pieter Johannes and Johannes Mattheüs also committed themselves to the silver trade. At the opening of a new factory in June 1858, the company of King Willem III received the predicate "Royal", after permission had already been obtained to carry the Royal Coat of Arms in 1841.
